Simply Speech offers individualized, family-centered speech therapy that targets functional, “real-world” skills. Our services go beyond the standard therapy model by offering flexible and convenient therapy in our clinic, at your home, or at your child's preschool or daycare. A vital component of our therapy is involving caregivers in the therapy process and showing you how best to support your child during everyday activities. At Simply Speech, it’s about improving communication by engaging with the world in fun, creative, dynamic, and, most importantly, functional ways.
Services
Speech Sound Disorders
Is your child hard to understand or having difficulty saying certain sounds? Speech therapy for articulation, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), and phonological disorders is personalized to address your child’s specific needs. Using evidence-based therapy approaches, we increase not only clarity of speech but also confidence in communicating.
Receptive & Expressive Language
Using and understanding language is a complex system requiring processing skills, working memory, vocabulary skills, comprehension, and the motivation to engage. We will begin by identifying where your child is experiencing challenges and then tailor our therapy approach to build the foundational skills that will lead to increased engagement and communication.
Parent & Caregiver Coaching
Because we understand that parents and caregivers play a vital role in their children’s learning, we encourage them to participate in therapy sessions and offer them guidance on how to practice targeted skills at home. We dedicate time at the end of our sessions to review skills we are working on, answer questions, and provide tips for home practice.
Joanna Caldwell, M.Ed., CCC-SLP
OWNER, SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Joanna is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) and is licensed to practice in the state of Alabama. She earned her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2000 and her M.Ed. degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2003 from the University of Georgia.
After years of assessing and treating communication disorders in schools and outpatient rehab centers, she founded Simply Speech to provide personalized care for her clients and their families. With this aim, she offers clients the convenience of services in their homes, daycares, preschools, and community settings.
Meet Joanna
Joanna recognizes children learn best when they are engaged in real-life activities. Because she has a creative and collaborative approach to therapy, she considers the mood, energy, and interests of her clients and finds the best way to deliver services to maximize learning and fun.
Joanna enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family and fostering for the local humane society. An animal lover at heart, she is pursuing certification in Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) with the plan to incorporate this approach into her therapy program.

Getting Started
STEP ONE
We will begin with a free phone consultation to discuss your concerns. If an evaluation is recommended, we will meet with you and your child to conduct a formal assessment.
STEP TWO
Following evaluation, we will collaborate to develop therapy goals and the frequency, duration, and location of sessions.
STEP THREE
Once therapy begins, we will monitor progress on a regular basis and ensure that our approach continues to be appropriate and relevant to your child’s needs.
Location
IN CLINIC
Our Auburn-based clinic is a welcoming, family-friendly environment. We invite parents to join us in therapy sessions or relax in the clinic waiting room during their child's session.
AT HOME
Targeting speech and language skills at home helps children learn to communicate in their everyday routines and aids in carryover of progress. We are happy to offer in-home services within the Auburn-Opelika area for a nominal travel fee.
IN COMMUNITY
When appropriate, we will meet with children at their preschool or daycare, providing additional convenience to busy parents.
